Dear Ma

OK, let's get the preliminaries over with first: yes, I'm healthy; no, the diet isn't going well; and no, I don't have a boyfriend yet.

Now to more important stuff: I'm safely on the new ship (but what a journey!) I'm only allowed to say that it's a lot (lot!) bigger than the last one, although that wouldn't be hard: we had twelve of us on the last boat, this one has hundreds of crew. Also, we were all human on the Alcibiades, except for that Tellarite girl you met that one time, F'Loora, the one who was glad to hear we don't eat pork, remember? Well, I've spotted just about all the major Federation member species here already. But don't worry, Ma, if I bring home a Vulcan or a Medusan, I'll make sure first that he's a nice Jewish boy.

Tomorrow I've got a big day, I've got to see a Doctor Noxi (what a name!) and I just know she'll say I'm overweight. Then I got to see a ship's councillor, that's like a shrink in space, about the agoraphobia. I mean it's not like I'm having a nervous breakdown, Ma, so don't worry. I just feel a little antsy in crowded spaces and you'd be surprised how many of those there are on a ship this big.

OK, I'll send this now as I've got to go and report in to the XO in ten. And please, Ma, don't keep asking me if I've had dinner at the Captain's table yet, this isn't a cruise ship.

Love to Pa and Rho, your loving (and favourite) daughter,
Jen
