Mission:
To Boldly Go...
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD15
Noxi had finished her meeting with the two other captains and a plan for evacuation was being made. The Ambassador would lead the effort, and the other two ships would add medical staff and space, and anything else that the Deliverance couldn’t provide.
Now, she had a quick onboarding meeting to do before she went back to the Bridge. She clicked on her comms. “Yeoman Chandler, please let in our new crewmate.”
Walking into the room, Valok went to attention, his padd flat against his leg. Clearing his throat, he said "Lieutenant Valok Larel reporting for duty Captain. " He struggled to keep his face neutral, relying on his training to push his nerves aside.
Noxi was sitting, but she looked up and smiled. "Hello, Lieutenant, nice to meet you. I am Captain Nairut Noxi, and this Commander Damian Morgan," she said. "Please sit down," she said.
Nodding, Valok took the seat and tried not to clench the padd too hard. He wasn't sure why he was nervous, and it concerned him. Projecting an air of calm, he worked on calming his face and waited for the captain to speak.
Morgan also nodded in reply to Valok’s greeting. He also held a PADD, this one with Larel’s service record. Morgan was interested in knowing more about the Lieutenant and definitely had questions. He knew he would get his opportunity, but Captain Nairut led the way and dictated how the meeting proceeded.
"In looking at your file, I noticed that you were only recently promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, and now full Lieutenant," she said. "You must be good at your job: Counselors don't normally move up so quickly," Noxi said. "I was the Chief Doc here on this ship before I took command," she explained.
Smiling very slightly, Valok replied "Captain Rhodes of the Horatio did express a high opinion of my duties. She advised that her promotion of me to full Lieutenant was a going away gift. She added that the promotion would give me higher expectations from my new commanding officer, and that in her words "they will make you work your butt off even more than I do."
At that, Noxi laughed. "Well, I would hope not TOO much," she said. "But I do intend to have the entire crew brought up to speed on thier psych evals," she said, "starting with the Commander here," she joked. And herself; it'd been a bit since she'd saw the counselor for anything serious, and she was overdue, or the flashbacks would start again, and they'd ALL be in trouble. "And with that, Commander, the floor is yours," she said. She picked up her coffee, and sipped it, settling back to listen. She was glad that the personnel roster was finally filling out-the others doing double and sometimes triple duty would really appreciate the breaks.
“Thank you, Captain. First, let me begin by welcoming you aboard Deliverance and congratulations. You are now responsible for the mental health of the entire crew.” Morgan tried to lighten the mood.
“In all seriousness, I’d like to ask you about your empathic abilities. I understand you’re in a unique situation because of your Vulcan and Betazoid background. I am in no way, shape or form condemning your heritage. Quite the opposite. I’m embracing it. Infinite diversity in infinite combination, right? So, with that being said, how do you envision yourself using your unique skills as an officer on this ship? Please speak freely.”
Thinking for a moment, Valok said "Thank you for the welcome Commander. I am fully committed to serving this ship and its crew. If my, as you correctly pointed out, unique abilities can help me do so, I am willing to use them. " Pausing, he added with a slight smile "It wouldn't be the first time I've been asked to use them. Captain Rhodes once asked me to try and telepathically connect with a young sentient giant spider like being, who thought the resort near its nest was a play toy."]
At the spider story, Noxi made a face. She HATED spiders, of any kind-the biggest reason she didn't pick science over medicine. She nodded.
"I know that some empaths have a personal rule about who and when they'll "read". Do you have any kind of limitation like that?" She asked. "Just so I know when to make it a request. For example, I served at my last posting with a Betazoid woman who refused to read her personal friends unless it was dire straits-like if they were incapacitated somehow. " she clarified.
Shaking his head. Valok replied "I don't have any limitations like that Captain. However if someone expresses their desire for me not to read them, I do respect it."
Noxi nodded. That made sense, and worked for her. "I will inform the others," she said. She looked at Morgan, in case he had anything to add.
“Then it’s settled as far as I’m concerned. Get yourself squared away in your quarters and report to the bridge in….say, one hour. That should give you plenty of time to get up to speed. Also, see the quartermaster if you need any extra uniforms or such,” Morgan said.
Noxi nodded. "Correct," she said. "I have nothing further. Do you want to ask us anything?" Noxi asked Valok. "Anything at all!" She said.
Shaking his head. Valok replied " Not at the moment Captain, I will likely have questions coming up through. I will get settled and report to the bridge within an hour. " Standing. he added "Permission to be dismissed Captain?"
Commander Morgan looked to the Captain. “Are we good? I believe we can dismiss our new officer.”
Noxi nodded. "Your're free to go!" She said. She smiled.
