1,376 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Deliverance After Dark
Location: Rose's crew quarters
Timeline: MD 15

The soft hum of the ship's engines provided a steady, soothing background as Neyin shifted slightly on the small but surprisingly cozy bed in Rose's quarters. The room was a mix of practicality and personal charm: shelves filled with tinkered gadgets and old tools mingled with a few personal keepsakes—some well-worn paperbacks, a small potted plant flourishing with life, and a Starfleet-issued blanket crumpled at the foot of the bed. An empty reptile enclosure dominated the back wall near the fresher, set up and carefully tended for an occupant she wasn't yet authorized to keep.

Neyin lay with Rose on her bed gently stroking her hair and paying little mind to the evil feeling of something staring daggers at him from deep within her. "You did great on galley duty, sweetie. Plus the marines really liked the soupies, as they went well with the roast I made." he said as he cuddled her close.

"Thanks, Neyin. They're one of those stupid spacer things. Easy way to preserve soups and stews in single serve portions if canning space isn't available and you just got the fridge. Easy to reheat, all kinds of good stuff. Little carb heavy for you, though." Nestling her body closer against his cool scales, Rose took one of his hands, gently probing the claws. "The Marines always showed up when I was on galley duty, though. They're pretty much regulars. Your roast was amazing, by the way.

"Thanks, Rose. I think I'm going to apply for the secondary MOS of chef since you seem to like cooking just as much as I do." while laying there and cuddling Neyin thought that nothing could go wrong in this moment.

The soft glow of the ambient lighting in Rose’s quarters was suddenly interrupted by a chime and a flash of light from the comm panel. A familiar projection shimmered to life in the center of the room. Neyin's parents materialized, life-sized and vividly present, their larger-than-life personalities immediately filling the cozy space.

Neyin froze mid-cuddle, Oh no it all went wrong! . he thought to himself as his golden eyes going wide with a mixture of embarrassment and dread.

On one side of the projection stood his father, towering at an imposing ten feet tall, his broad shoulders almost comically close to brushing the edges of the projection field. His leather biker jacket gleamed under the simulated light, adorned with patches of old Terran symbols and cryptic alien runes. His chest was covered with numerous bandages—clearly the result of recent scrapes—though none seemed to faze him in the slightest. His rough-hewn face split into a toothy grin as his deep, gravelly voice boomed out.

"Neyin, my boy! Finally, you’re answering calls again. What’s this about ignoring your family, huh? We’re not that scary, are we?"

Neyin realising that covering them both with the floor blanket would be a better idea at the moment then letting himself and his human shaped heater be seen in the buff, He flicked his tail covering their lower halfs in the blanket.

On the other side of the projection was Neyin’s mother, a vision of casual chaos. She was dressed in a black tank top and a pair of practical cargo pants, her scaled arms glistening faintly under the light. She didn’t even pause as she shoved the last half of a massive 12-inch sub into her maw with surprising efficiency, her sharp teeth slicing through the bread and fillings like paper.

"’Bout time!" she said, her voice slightly muffled as she chewed. She swallowed audibly and jabbed a claw in Neyin's direction. "Don’t think you’re off the hook for not calling back last week. You know I worry!"

Rose reacted more to the movement of the blanket than the holo projection of two enormous Gorn in her room, scrambling to cover her nude body as she turned several shades of red and hope she wasn't noticed yet. Goddanmit, Nairut! Returning my cockblocks, now?! And a 3D holo call is expensive as shit! And only available on the new ships! The actual fuck?!

"Uh, Mom, Dad," Neyin stammered, his deep voice tinged with nervousness, "this isn’t a great time—"

"Nonsense!" his father bellowed, crossing his arms and looking entirely too pleased with himself. "You’re not busy; You seemed to have just finished mating! And who’s this? A crewmate? A… special crewmate?" His grin widened, clearly relishing his son’s obvious discomfort. Neyin’s mother leaned closer to the projection, squinting as though trying to make out details. Her tongue flicked briefly as she scrutinized a wide eyed Rose staring back.

"Ohhh, so this is why you’re ignoring our calls, huh? You’ve got yourself a girlfriend!" She elbowed Neyin’s father, nearly knocking him off balance in the process.

"Mom!" Neyin hissed,

"What? She’s cute! " his mother retorted, grinning as she reached off-screen and produced what looked like another massive sandwich, this one piled even higher with ingredients. "You didn’t think we didnt expect this, did you ? After all, all your siblings are... whats the word kids use these days?" She said looking to Neyins dad.

"Xenophiles dear." he stated, grinning.

"Aahm... We haven't... I... He told me no cause I've been working too hard. Sorry, I assume you're Mr. and Mrs. Vessk? I'm Rose Andrake, daughter of the Wayward Son, Navigator of the Deliverance. Is... Is there something I can help with or do you mind me getting dressed?" Slowly, Rose pulled an old Captain's tee shirt from the Starbreaker to herself and beginning to pull a shirt on and try to cover herself at the same time. The process was slow, but these two didn't seem to be calling from a holodeck, just a little desktop capture device. They almost definitely didn't have tactile. So she wasn't going to have to deal with that.

"Take your time little-un, we are not intrested in your looks." his father states before introducing himself. "Im Kradek “Warspike” Vessek Veteran of four fronts and master of the Gorn energy Pike. and this is my conqueror Saryka “Fleetforge” Vessek Commander of Fourfold Triumph."

"I was not aware that Neyin had such prestige in his blood. I am humbled, as my titles are all of the simple freighter." With a shirt finally on, she let the blanket drop to her hips so she could reach for a set of pajamas. "Your lack of interest, though, does not negate human taboos about nudity. Especially when meeting the parents of romantic partners. Neyin, do you want me to stay or would you like some privacy?"

Neying sat there wondering why Rose was being so respectful. when his mother piped up. "why would we need privacy did you not conquer Neyin as well?" His father chuckled at his mothers Inquiry. "Lets leave them be call us back when your finished doing what your doing."

"Alright, look, lady, I haven't conquered your son, and I--" The hologram cut before she could finish, leaving her standing and blinking sans pants at the space where Neyin's parents had been, ready to poke the hologram of Saryka in the chest. Almost like she had snapped and forgotten the Gorn pair wasn't actually there, but she was still ready to start a fight in her too tired to fight her intrusive thoughts state. "They... Hung up. Are they always like that?"

Neyin didnt say anything and just grabbed Rose before laying down. "Bed, no fighting" he stated as he snuggled her. "But yes they are like that I can answer questions you might have if you want."

Rose gave a squawk as she was lifted and dragged into the bed, before relaxing. "I'll have questions when I have the brain power to give my Gorn studies the attention they deserve. Till then, I'll accept cuddles. Just... If you ever meet my mom, she's one of the most powerful telepaths I've ever known. Just... Don't try to hide anything from her and absolutely don't think too hard."

Neyin would happily chirp as he cuddles her. after a long pause he decides to be a goofball and Lick her face earning yet another squawk.
