Mission:
To Boldly Go...
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD-16
Following the staff meeting, Noxi made her way to the Bridge. She settled in to review the day's reports, and to make a plan going forward.
It had been decided that each ship would onboard 150 Nadeans, and then transport them to various outpostings if they chose not to go to the nearby colony-OR return them to Nade when it was safe to do so. It would set them back a bit, but she wasn't worried-things happened, and as long as they could be to SB48 before the Station's retrofitting began, it'd be fine. The Intrepid had volunteered to stay in the area and patrol for a period of fourteen days, giving their crew a much-needed reprieve, as they were coming off an intense battle with the Breen. She understood, and HQ had agreed.
Now? She issued a few orders. "Helm, maintain our holding pattern, please," she said. "Ops, Engineering. Reports, please," she said. "Everyone else, prep for onboarding of civilians. Secure your teams, and ensure that they're prepared," she said.
------------
Mira was on a medical bed, not even sure what happened. She fell unconscious from whatever happened to her, before she arrived there.
Valok, having made his way down to Sickbay after unpacking, appeared beside the biobed holding a tricorder. Scanning her, he gently said "I'm Lieutenant Valok Larel, please try to be calm I'm here to help. What's the last thing you remember before you woke up here?"
The woman explained, and then lay back.
Nodding, Valok replied "Take it easy for now ok? Try to rest. But let us know if you need anything. I'll come back to check on you soon." Walking towards the CMO office he caught the eye of a nearby nurse, who he thought he remembered from the crew manifest. Clearing his throat, he said "Excuse me Ensign Martinez? Can you keep an eye on things here for a moment? I have something I need to follow up on." After receiving a nod, he made his way into the office and took a seat.
Calling up the duty roster, he was confused. He'd wanted to introduce himself to the Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Baker, before continuing to his own office down the corridor. Unfortunately Baker wasn't around, so he'd stepped in to check on their new patient. Concerned, he tapped his combadge and said "Larel to Captain Nairut. Can I see you in the CMO's office when you are available? I'm a bit confused and concerned about something. "
Noxi was at the Command console, reading through the SitReps and mentally making notes when the Doc's comms came through.
=/\=Sure. I'll be down right away. =/\=
After securing the Bridge, she made her way down to Medical, and rang the chime before stepping inside. She headed for the office, and knocked. "It's Captain Nairut," she said, aloud. "What can I do for you?" She entered without waiting for permission-sometimes, she forgot she wasn't the CMO anymore.
Looking up as the door opened Valok replied "Thank you for coming so quickly Captain. I'm sorry for bothering you, but I'm concerned. I had stopped in here to introduce myself to Doctor Baker, before going to my office to get settled in and catch up on the refugee operation. However Baker wasn't to be found. No one has seen him today, but the duty roster indicates he should be on duty now. " Pausing, he took a breath and added "I'm sorry Captain, when I get anxious I tend to ramble. Since he wasn't around, I stepped in to tend to Lieutenant Commander Napier, then contacted you. I was going to try and contact Baker myself, bit thought I should speak with you first."
Noxi bit her lip. She nodded, though. "It's ok," she said. "You made the right call. Dr. Baker has been reassigned on an emergency. To deep space. Forever," she said. It wasn't exactly a lie, she supposed. "Ah, why don't you sit down?" She said, and settled in herself. "Juma?" She asked, as she went to the replicator. "Anyway. Dr. Baker is deceased. Uh..overnight. Myself, and security found him. We didn't have time to file an official report just yet, but I thought that the Chief Security Officer would tell you. Oh, well, except she's your patient, isn't she?" Noxi sipped her tea, and nodded.
Shocked by the news, but keeping his face as neutral as he could, Valok took a seat and replied "I understand. What are your orders Captain?" He hadn’t met Baker but death was still shocking regardless. He could sense her unease with the situation, but chose not to address it. He didn't want to overstep.
Noxi smiled lightly. "Steady as she goes. I suppose that means you're the CMO now," she said. "I will let Commander Morgan know, and we can have some sort of official ceremony later on," she said. "Welcome aboard, and good luck. If you need a hand, let me know. I was a doctor myself...." she sighed. "So I can at least assist with triage if we ever need it." She smiled. "I hope that answered your question. You, myself, and Commander Morgan can discuss it in further detail later on; I just need some info from HQ first," she said. She would tell him the truth, but first, she wanted to make sure they were in the clear from Starfleet Medical and Section 31, and so on.
Nodding, Valok kept his tone even, though he was overwhelmed by the sudden news, and replied "Thank you Captain. I will get to work as soon as we're done. A few questions though? With me in charge of the medical and counseling departments, are you OK with any reconfiguring of the office and meeting areas?. I'm thinking that my office will be here, where I'm likely going to be often. Also, I understand we're bringing aboard refugees or something similar. Are there plans to use one of the cargo bags as temporary quarters?"
Noxi nodded. "The reconfiguring is fine; I don't care about that. Do whatever works best for you," she said. "And yes, both Cargo Bays are being set up as emergency quarters. Captain Johnson of the Bonne Homme has said that you can use his auxiliary medical bay if necessary," she said. The Bonne Homme Richard was a much larger ship than the Deliverance-a Connie class. "I hope that helps. In the meantime, I will leave you to it if you have nothing else," she said. She smiled. "And I mean it about letting me help," she said. "Just say the words. I promise I won't think you can't handle it..." besides, she MISSED it.
Smiling very slightly, Valok replied "Thank you Captain. I will get to work and prepare a departmental status repor as soon as possible. " After she left the office he sagged against the desk, now his desk, He was overwhelmed sure, but needed to focus. Taking a steadying breath, he took a seat at his console and got to work.
Noxi nodded. "Very good, thank you," she said, standing up. "I won't keep you any longer. If you need me, I am about to step on to the Bridge. Call down," she said. "I can see myself out," she said, over her shoulder as she left.
