Initial Physical

Gemi Gahi had just received the notification that E was to report to the medical department for Eir on-boarding physical and psychological review. E looked in the mirror, studying EIr reflection for a moment, then, telepathically communicated to the other three of the family unit, "Gemi turbolift medical." Eir reflection in the mirror seemed to mimic Emself, with the polychromatic eyes changing colors from gray to various colors corresponding to the .Chix'alk language, and the horns on the side of Eir head remaining gray color.

E then spoke out loud, and the specialized embedded Universal Translator provided the slightly delayed translation to Terran English. "As they speak in Human terms, wish me luck."

It did not occur to Gemi that, during initial contact with another species, some beings have unusual reactions to seeing a 'Chix'alk speak, rather quietly, then have their speech emitted by the UT implant.

E left the quarters, made Eir way to the turbolift, and took it to the Medical area, where E paused for a moment, then entered the area. E stood there for a moment, a little unsure where E should report.

Noxi sat behind the computer in the main treatment room. She was working on staff rosters; they'd need a full work rota shortly. She preferred Alpha shifts, but of course, as Department Head, she'd be available 24/7 to her staff. She put the ACMO on the Beta Shift and the Trauma surgeon on Gamma. Perfect. She peered at the newcomer.

"Hello. I am Dr. Nairut Noxi. How can I help you today?" She asked. What race was this person?! She'd never encountered this before. Should she call up someone from Science?!

Gemi stood there for a moment, allowing the embedded UT to translate the Doctor's language to .Chix'alk, then EIr lips moved almost imperceptibly, along with Eir eyes and horns transitioning through various color combinations, while E formulated a response. With very little hesitation, Gahi's response was heard, "Gemi came from Eir quarters to the medical area for Eir initial consultation." E still stood at attention, assuming that that was the protocol to follow when addressing a superior officer.

Internally, Gemi communicated telepathically with Eir family unit, which meant Eir eyes changed colors according to the words E was communicating with the unit. Given the fact that Eir horns did not change colors correspondingly, this might have been an indication to the Dr. that E was communicating. The communication consisted of the following color combinations:
LE (Left Eye): Dark Brown RE (Right Eye): Light Orange - Meaning: Worry Possibility/Insure
LE: Gray RE: Gray : Doctor
LE: Dark Gray RE: Dark Orange - Meaning: Negative Statement/Declarative Sentence
LE: Dark Gray RE: Dark Orange - Meaning: Negative Statement/Declarative Sentence
LE: Dark Gray RE: Dark Orange - Meaning: Negative Statement/Declarative Sentence
Basic translation: "I'm unsure the Doctor understands my language."

Vila nodded. "Ok, so your initial exam. Let's get you settled. Can you please tell me the name of your race so I can check the databases?" She asked.

Gemi responded, " My species is called the .Chix'alk." E continued, "My gender is Posento."

Vila nodded. "I see." She turned to the computer. "Computer, please access the biological information for a race called .Chix'alk". There wasn't TOO much information. "Now narrow that to "Posento." A moment later, some more information came across the screen. She read it. This was going to be a bit more difficult than she expected.

"Alright. Let's begin," she said. She did a scan with the tricorder. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. "When did your race join the Federation?" She asked.

Gemi responded, and less than a second later, the UT replied with, ".Chix'alk joined the Federation 20 years prior to today. Gemi, being of Science tendencies, decided to study nutrition and mechanics, and craft sustenance."

She nodded. "I see. So about as long as Bajor," she said. "Those are important things," she said. "Especially to me. If one eats well, one can avoid some medical conditions. And avoid seeing ME," she said. The tricorder said that he was in good health.

"You appear to be in good health," she said. "Do you have any complaints for me today?"

Gemi had relaxed somewhat, deciding the the Doctor understood Em well enough that E did not need to have their Medical counterpart, Sata Gahi, a Hermoncipi, who would possibly be a medical assistant in the Medical department, join them for any clarifications that she might need.

E did not have any complaints, and was ready to respond, but E did not quite understand the meaning of her statement about not seeing her any more than necessary. "Gemi does not have any complaints today, but Gemi does have a question. Why would Gemi want to avoid seeing you?"

She chuckled lightly. "Well. Sometimes people are reticent to see me because I tell them things they don't want to hear-like to exercise more. Or eat healthy. Or even that they can't be on duty in specific circumstances. Plus...being called in in the middle of your work day can be a pain," she said. "It can throw off the whole day. You seem to be in excellent health. How do your people eat?" She asked. "And what does your diet consist of?"

Gemi looked at the Dr., and replied, "The Usskik tribe always eats as one unit, in unison, as we sit at our dining platform. Our diet consists of the inner ovum of the Abelkoko animal, which is the sole sustenance provider for the .Chix'alk. And, that is correct, Gahi is in excellent health."

Noxi smiled. "I see. I hope that is not too limiting, but I understand. Since you're in good health, you're free to go. I will recall you in one years' time, unless something else happens. Before you go, do you have any questions?" She asked him.

Gemi paused for a moment, then, recalling the customary Terran gesture for a negative response, shook Eir head and responded, "Gemi has no questions. Gemi returns to quarters." With that response, E left sickbay and returned to Eir quarters.
