Mission:
To Boldly Go...
Location: Sickbay
Dr. Baker sat behind his desk, looking at his terminal. The screen listed the ship's roster, in order of rank. There were 100 total personnel on the ship, 25 officers, 75 enlisted. He decided he would setup the physicals in reverse order. 100 crew, working 3 shifts, would mean he'd be seeing, barring emergency, 33.3 of the time. He would get rid of the physicals first, then the crew can make appointments every 3 months. 33.3 crew in 30 days. These would be follow-up and their birth control injections.
It was going to be a lot, so no time like the present.
"Crewmen Abbot, Brown and Charles. Report to sickbay on your next break."
While he waited, he started setting up appointments for the rest of the crew.
The three crewmen, 1 human male 2 human females, arrived in sickbay. Nurse Mitchell told Byron that there were about 25 crew waiting for their physical. Turns out that word about his arrival has generated gossip about the new, handsome doctor. Word is his nickname is now 'biscuit'.
Byron quickly did all the physicals, giving the males, who wanted it, their quarterly birth control injections. He had gotten doing routine physicals down to 15 minutes each. If someone has some sort of intestinal virus, he'll work longer to identify and cure them.
Some of the females would complain of illnesses just to spend more time with him.
It took 2 hours, but he was finally finished.
Bryon got himself an herbal tea from the replicator and sat down behind his desk. He looked at the physical schedule when he noticed that he hasn't setup physicals for the senior staff.
"Captain Nairut report to sickbay. Commander Morgan report to sickbay. Lieutenant Commander Chandler report to sickbay."
Noxi looked up from her computer, where she was parked, processing all the crap that the Fleet required before they were allowed to launch. Honestly, a medical intake was WAYYY more interesting than this, so she dutifully stood up, smoothed out her uniform, and made her way to Medical, quickly. She was the Captain, might as well make a good impression and set the example for the rest of the senior staff.
"Dr. Baker? Captain Nairut," she said, stepping into the waiting area.
"Captain. Thank you for coming." He walked over to her, then pointed to the nearest biobed. "Please lay down."
Right down to business. Good, Noxi liked that. She did as he asked. "I am mostly up to date with my physicals," she said. "Just a minor rash on my arm that only started when I arrived here to DS9 with my kid," she said. She extended her right arm, and pulled the sleeve to the elbow. He'd find a short series of what appeared to be bug bites. "Not sure where they came from. I've been down on Bajor since...the Breen," she said, finally. "I've only used a topical ointment so far," she noted. She was-had been- a doctor herself, after all. Besides the rash, the only other things he'd find on her skin was a tattoo on her back, and some scars from her escape from Bajor when she was a child. They'd had to leave in the dark of night, and had faced rocket fire in their attempts. She'd been burned by some hot metal that fell off the shuttle, but nothing major.
Baker ran his scanner over the bites. Then he accessed the Bajoran medical database to see what it knew about the bites. "You must have disturbed what can be called Bajorian mites nest." He picked up a hypo and injected the rash area. "Should clear up in 24 hours. If it doesn't, return here. "Otherwise you seem to be very healthy, save for those scars on your back. Minor surgery can take care of that. Anything else you wish me to know?"
Noxi sighed. "No, everything in my files are up to date. I think I'll keep the scars, Doc. They remind me of my time in the Labor camps and why I do this," she said, sitting up. "And that makes sense. I was playing with my niece in the forests behind my mother's house last week, when I went planetside for a visit," she said. "Thank you," she said. "Are the rest of the crew reporting in as you request? Anyone give you any pushback, and just let me know. I'll take care of it. I was CMO here before taking command, and so. You have some big shoes to fill," she said. "But I trust you can do it," she said, confidently. "Anything else you need from me? I am not due for my lady's exam for a few more months, and I'd prefer to wait that long," she said, matter of factly. Those were the worst-those triggered her PTSD.
Noxi stepped out of the exam room, and nodded to the crew who waited in the anteroom. "Good luck, folks," she said, stepping out into the Corridor to head up to the Bridge. She hoped they would see her calm and know it was OK.
Baker stepped out in the waiting room to see who was next.
Drew stood up from his chair and met Byron in the middle of Sickbay. He seemed slightly confused by the summons. "What's up Doctor Baker? Did you discover something after reviewing the results of Ashley or my examinations yesterday?"
"I just wanted to double check some readings from your scan. Please get on the biobed." Baker responded.
Drew lay down on the biobed as instructed. He was more curious then worried about what the doctor needed to double check.
"No need to worry, commander, the computer, for some reason didn't scan you for the usual virus's, probably a computer glitch. It's been reported." After a few minutes, "Scans complete. As I suspected you are in very good condition. You can sit up now."
Drew sat up and slid his legs off to dangle along the biobed. "Is there anything else you require Doctor Baker?"
"I see that you are due for you birth control injection. Would now be a good time?" Baker asked.
Drew shrugged. "Really no need. I'm not sexually active and won't be."
"Very well. If you change your mind, or if the situation changes, you know where to see me."
Drew hopped off the biobed and nodded at Byron. "Of course Doctor. Thank you for completing the viral scan. If there's nothing else?"
"No, that will be all for now." Baker's 6th sense went off. 'Was my patient hiding something from me?' Baker swore that he was going to check Starfleet Medical records on him.
Drew left the exam room to return to his duties.
